Reflect

Big picture

This was the most stressful and rewarding process that i've been through. This project tested my limits and provided me experiences that I would never get otherwise. I've learned many valuable assets about myself and about the rabbit hole into the world of furniture.

The Problem

I picked helping the immobile sit and stand because I saw a big empty spot in the furniture world that had potential to be filled. My parents and grandparents started showing signs of weak knees and bad backs. This meant it was getting hard for them to sit and stand. My parents and grandparents were also a big part in research for my project.

My solution

The Care Chair business and website allows you to buy and subscribe to monthly payments to ensure your springs are matched to your weight. The Care Chair allows for you to sit and stand without trouble. I am very proud of the business and blueprints I made. The blueprints are for the warehouse that the Care Chair would be made in. The Care Chair would solve sitting and standing issues throughout the home or hospital or wherever you wanted to take it. It would solve these issues because the chair would relive stress past the 45° angle sitting and standing. At first I was focussed on just building the chair. After some thinking I decided to focus more on the business side of the chair. This made me think differently about my project in many ways. It made me think differently because my original plan was very hands on and physical. The business side Is all computer work and a lot more research. I definitely did not finish what I wanted to due to having nothing to sell and only having prototypes. Another reason I didn't finish is that at the beginning the 6 months felt like a long time, but not everything you want to complete can be done.

Expo

The expo went very well. I can tell my project could change peoples lives the way they responded to my table. The way people reacted when they understood what the Care Chair did made me realize it could change peoples lives. My pitch, my website and my visuals were what people responded to the best. If I could do the EXPO again I would let them go through the website rather then me doing it for them. I also might have made a physical representation of the warehouse.

Future

I gained a lot of website making skills through the HDD project by setting up an online shop for Care Chair customers to use. Another skill I improved on is 3D printing to show prototypes and my progress through them. The next skill I learned was laser cutting skills to also build prototypes. I learned a lot about building with wood as well for the prototypes. Lastly I learned how to create blueprints to show a representation of the warehouse the chairs would be built and shipped from.

These past 4 years have taught me about how I worked and what jobs would be good or bad for me. I need to find something I enjoy and know about to be successful job wise. This would be limitless for the growth of my job and myself. I want to go into nursing and these four years have shaped how I looked at, and solved problems. Instead of just thinking "there's no way" I learned very valuable problem solving skills, so there's always something you can do to help.
